I decided to do an apprenticeship because I've always been a more hands-on learner and loved learning on the go. I actually went to university for a year and realised that I did not enjoy the style of learning. During my gap year, I looked into apprenticeships as I like the fact that I was able to earn a degree whilst still gaining valuable experience.

Tell us more about your experience

Can you describe your job and what you do on a day-to-day basis?

As a Solution Engineer, my role is to work with a salesperson to discover a customer's business challenges and create a demonstration of a solution to present back to them, emphasising the value and benefits through storytelling.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

My highlight has been presenting and hosting a panel in front of 40+ employees in the company to highlight the importance of apprentices and how to support them. I received great feedback and felt very proud of myself! Many people that attended were unsure about how apprenticeships work in Salesforce and came from that event wanting apprentices.

What sort of support network do you have at your company?

The support network at Salesforce is very strong . There is a dedicated team who are focused on our journey and making sure we have opportunities to grow and connect with others. I have 2 apprentice buddies who have been supporting me from the beginning whilst I was still finding my feet! There is also a strong apprentice community at Salesforce across different roles .

What will happen at the end of your apprenticeship, and have you discussed this with your employer?

Beyond my apprenticeship, I intend to carry on my role at Salesforce either continuing working in my current team or joining another!

What would be your words of advice to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

My advice would be to go for it! Apprenticeships are so valuable and there's so much to learn. If you love to learn, are hands-on, want to gain industry experience and get a head start in your career, this is the best option . Research the company and the course and if you feel it is right for you and don't be afraid to reach out to people on LinkedIn in same/ similar roles to find more information about the role.
