I initially went to university, but I quickly realised that the traditional academic route wasn’t the right fit for me. I wanted a more hands-on, practical approach to learning—something that would allow me to gain real experience while working towards a qualification. An apprenticeship felt like the perfect path, as it combines learning with real responsibility and gives me the chance to grow both professionally and personally.

I enjoy following football and watching my team play, even though they cause me stress more than anything. I listen to music at every point of the day, I enjoy discovering new artists or just having something on in the background . I also make time for running, as it helps me stay focused, healthy, and clear-headed.

Q&A with Keon
One of the things I love most about my apprenticeship is that I don’t have a fixed job role. This gives me the opportunity to rotate through different departments across the business and gain a broad understanding of how the organisation operates. Currently, I’m working within the Lean department, where I support process improvement projects. No two days are the same, and I really enjoy the variety of tasks and the chance to develop new skills in a range of areas across the business.
A recent highlight for me was taking part in a Kaizen event. It gave me valuable insight into how an aerospace engineering company functions and introduced me not only to my immediate team but also to the wider business. Coming into the role without much prior work experience, I found it to be an eye-opening and rewarding experience. It helped me understand how continuous improvement plays a vital role in our industry and made me feel like an active contributor from the very start.
One of the biggest challenges so far has been balancing my work responsibilities with my university studies. Managing both can be demanding—it requires strong time management, organisation, and the ability to stay focused when things get busy. It’s definitely a learning curve, but one that’s helping me grow both professionally and personally.
Thankfully, I’m supported by a great network. My manager and team are always there to offer guidance and answer any questions, no matter how big or small. The apprenticeship team is also incredibly helpful, providing useful resources, advice, and regular feedback. On top of that, my university skills coach checks in regularly and supports me with staying on track academically. It makes a big difference knowing I have people I can rely on.
Looking ahead, I’m aiming to move into a full-time role with the company once I complete my apprenticeship. I know it will take hard work, but I’m ready for the challenge and excited to keep learning and progressing.
If you’re thinking about doing an apprenticeship, I’d absolutely say go for it. It’s a brilliant way to learn on the job while working toward a recognised qualification. You gain hands-on experience, build real-world skills, and start to figure out what you truly enjoy doing. Plus, you earn while you learn—which is a huge bonus. If you’re motivated, open to learning, and ready to push yourself, an apprenticeship can give you an amazing foundation for your future career.
