As a Hairdressing Apprentice, you’ll learn the ins and outs of working in a salon, from helping clients feel their best to developing the practical skills needed to become a qualified hairdresser. You’ll work alongside experienced stylists, learn on the job and build your confidence as you develop your own skills.
What will you learn?
Throughout your Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship with Reflections Training Academy, you’ll work towards a recognised qualification while gaining hands-on experience in a real salon.
You’ll learn how to:
Wash, condition and treat hair using the right products and techniques for different hair types.
Cut hair using essential techniques to create different styles and finishes.
Style and finish hair, including blow-drying and creating a range of looks.
Colour hair and understand the basics of colouring services, including consultation and safety.
Consult with clients to understand what they want and recommend suitable services.
Keep your salon safe, clean and professional, including understanding hygiene, health and safety.
Deliver great customer service and build the communication skills needed to make clients feel comfortable.
Understand the hair industry, including products, professional standards and how salons operate.
What will your apprenticeship involve?
Most of your learning will happen in the salon, where you’ll put your skills into practice and learn from experienced professionals. You’ll also attend training with Reflections Training Academy, usually one day every two weeks, where you’ll develop your techniques, build your knowledge and work towards your qualification.
You’ll start by building the foundations before progressing as your confidence and ability grow. You’ll also develop transferable skills such as teamwork, organisation, communication and problem-solving.

Qualifications required
No previous hairdressing qualifications are usually required.
A genuine interest in hair, fashion, styling or the beauty industry.
A willingness to learn, take feedback on board and develop practical skills.
Good communication skills and a friendly approach to customer service.
GCSEs in English and maths are useful, but applicants without these qualifications may still be eligible.
Training you'll get
At Reflections Training Academy, we've been training the next generation of hair professionals since 1984. During your Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship, you'll attend academy training where you'll develop your practical hairdressing skills, learn new techniques and work towards your qualification with support from experienced tutors.
From shampooing and styling to cutting and colouring, you'll build on what you learn in the salon and develop the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to progress as a hairdresser. You'll learn alongside other apprentices, take part in practical sessions and gain an understanding of the standards and techniques used in the hair industry.
Future prospects
Once qualified, you can go on to be a Graduate Stylist and work on your column. You could also study further and do the Advanced and Creative Hair Level 3 Apprenticeship with Reflections.
