We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated IT Support Apprentice to join our growing team.

This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to develop practical IT skills while working alongside experienced IT engineers. You will gain experience both at our Colchester premises and on-site at customer locations, supporting individuals and businesses with a wide range of IT requirements.

You will work closely with experienced engineers and gradually take on more responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about technology and wants to build a career in IT support.

Key Responsibilities

As an IT Support Apprentice, your responsibilities will include:

IT Support & Troubleshooting

  • Providing first-line IT support to customers under the guidance of experienced engineers.

  • Diagnosing and resolving common hardware and software issues.

  • Supporting customers with Windows PCs, laptops and other IT equipment.

  • Assisting with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and email-related issues.

  • Troubleshooting internet and connectivity problems.

  • Assisting with printer and peripheral setup and troubleshooting.

  • Carrying out basic system checks, updates and maintenance.

  • Escalating more complex technical issues to senior engineers.

On-Site Customer Support

  • Accompanying experienced engineers on visits to business and residential customers.

  • Assisting with IT installations, troubleshooting and maintenance at customer sites.

  • Helping to set up computers, laptops, printers and other equipment.

  • Assisting with network, router and Wi-Fi installations and configuration.

  • Supporting the addition of new computers and users to customer networks.

  • Providing friendly and professional customer service when representing the company on-site.

  • Learning how to understand a customer's requirements and explain technical issues in a clear, non-technical way.

Hardware & Repairs

  • Assisting with the diagnosis and repair of laptops and desktop computers.

  • Supporting hardware upgrades, including RAM and storage upgrades.

  • Assisting with Windows installations and system configuration.

  • Supporting data transfers and recovery where appropriate and under supervision.

  • Assisting with virus and malware removal and basic security checks.

  • Learning how to identify hardware faults and recommend appropriate solutions.

Workshop & General Duties

  • Assisting engineers with customer equipment brought into the workshop.

  • Preparing and configuring new and refurbished computers and laptops.

  • Installing software, drivers and updates.

  • Maintaining accurate records of work undertaken.

  • Keeping the workshop and equipment organised.

  • Following company procedures for handling customer equipment and data.

  • Maintaining a high standard of security and confidentiality when dealing with customer information.

To become an apprentice, you must:

  • be 16 or over

  • not already be in full-time education

As an apprentice you’ll:

  • complete a L3 ICT apprenticeship standard

  • have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace

  • learn and train for a specific job

  • get paid and receive holiday leave

  • get hands-on experience in a real job

  • study for 6 hours of your working hours

  • complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship

  • be on a career path with lots of future potential
