Equine Groom Apprentice - Classic Sport Horses

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about carriage driving and the role of a groom/backstepper, providing experience in a less conventional but fascinating area of the equestrian industry.
The business has a very busy winter training season, followed by summer competitions, so this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to become more involved in the competition side of the industry and progress with the horses as they move up the levels.
The employer can teach the successful candidate the more specialist horse-related aspects of the role, but they must already have some experience of grooming horses and must be comfortable around large competition horses.
The role will include:
Mucking out / keeping yard area tidy
Feeding / filling haynets and water buckets
Turning in and out
Picking out feet / rugging up
Grooming / Tacking up
Tack Cleaning
Bathing / Show Prep
Lunging / long reining
Holding for farrier / vet / dentist
Possibility of grooming at shows
Hours
16 hours a week depending on availability. The rest to be negotiated.
Accommodation is not currently available.
Skills required
Experienced and knowledgeable with horses
Reliable and hardworking
Confident handling a variety of horses, including Hanoverian mares
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Flexible around changing shifts and show schedules
Keen to work within a busy competition yard
Qualifications required
GCSE in English (grade 4 and above) and Maths (grade 4 and above) is desirable
