At Amey, we have an exciting opportunity for a Highways Supervisor to join our NMC North East contract in Perth, working in partnership with Transport Scotland to maintain and improve one of Scotland's most vital road networks.

Since 2022, our team has been responsible for keeping more than 593km of trunk roads safe, resilient and operational, supporting thousands of journeys every day. From routine maintenance and bridge repairs to managing emergency incidents and severe weather response, we help keep Scotland moving while contributing towards a more sustainable future and the achievement of net zero targets.

The Role

As a Highways Supervisor, you'll lead frontline operational teams, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. You'll be the vital link between planning and delivery, supporting gangs on site, managing resources, and responding to operational challenges as they arise.

No two days are the same. Whether you're overseeing planned works, coordinating emergency responses, supporting winter maintenance operations, or ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, you'll be at the heart of keeping our network operating safely and effectively.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading and supporting operational teams across routine, reactive and emergency maintenance activities.
• Carrying out site visits and inspections to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
• Providing technical guidance and problem-solving support to operational gangs.
• Delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and promoting a strong safety-first culture.
• Ensuring accurate recording of completed works for client reporting and project records.
• Managing materials, plant, equipment and subcontractor requirements to support delivery.
• Monitoring workforce performance, attendance, development and training needs.
• Supporting employee development through coaching, performance reviews and training plans.
• Ensuring all works comply with environmental, quality and contractual requirements.
• Assisting with emergency and winter service operations when required.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a proactive leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment and can motivate teams to deliver excellent results.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience within highways construction, maintenance or civil engineering operations.
• Experience supervising direct labour teams and subcontractors.
• Strong planning, organisation and workload management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Ability to identify issues quickly and implement practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
• 12C Mobile Traffic Management Planning Officer qualification.
• Excellent customer and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• NRSWA Supervisor.
• SSSTS qualification.
• SVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
• Experience delivering toolbox talks and workforce briefings.

Additional Requirements

• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Flexibility to support overnight, weekend, emergency and winter maintenance operations when required.
