Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Highways Technician to join our Bridges Scheme Delivery Team within our NMC South West account, based in Polmadie, Glasgow.

Our NMC SW account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, we are responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery as well as winter maintenance and incident response.

Our team are first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, deliver engineering design and operational delivery services for more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures enabling reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.

By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities.

The purpose of the Highways Technician is to support the Delivery Manager in the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of works under the SW NMC, ensuring statutory obligations, programme, quality and stakeholder requirements are met. The shift pattern is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Delivery Manager in the safe and efficient delivery of highway and infrastructure works.
• Assist with Principal Contractor duties in line with CDM Regulations.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Support the preparation and review of Construction Phase Plans, RAMS and compliance documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and safety visits, ensuring actions are addressed.
• Coordinate subcontractors, resources, programme and site activities.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders and local authorities.
• Maintain site records, permits and project documentation.
• Promote a positive safety culture through briefings, toolbox talks and workforce engagement.
• Support incident reporting, investigations and continuous improvement actions.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience in a similar role within the highways or civil engineering sector is preferred
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations, highways safety and site management practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and initiative
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to team discussions
• Good commercial awareness with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
• Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, alongside excellent interpersonal skills
• A full UK driving licence (essential)

A relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification would be preferred for this role.
