Opportunity Details

Shenfield Day Nursery are looking for determined, passionate individual who is looking for an apprenticeship in Childcare to join our small, friendly and very homely nursery. Working with children under 5 is enormously rewarding where no two days are the same and where you will never stop learning things yourself!

You must be a team player with good communication skills and love being around children. You must be willing to learn, have motivation to study and have a kind, patient and caring nature.

The position available is fun and hugely rewarding and we hope that you would progress to working as a qualified professional within our setting at the end of your studies.

Duties include:

    CARE AND EDUCATION

    • To learn about the differing needs of individual key children and how to provide a fun, stimulating and loving approach towards each child and their learning
    • To learn to plan a supportive environment, both inside and outdoors, that stimulates learning opportunities for children and fosters dispositions for learning
    • To foster children’s emotional wellbeing and support them to become confident and independent young children who care about others
    • To learn how to encourage children’s acquisition of language and social skills through play, fostering a love of books and creating a language-rich environment.
    • To assist staff in caring for the personal and dietary needs of each child with sensitivity and kindness
    • To always act as a positive role model for the children in her/his care
    • To learn how to maintain accurate and up to date records for each key child through observation, assessment and planning
    • To encourage progress in early learning skills by personalising and differentiating a developmentally appropriate curriculum


    • GENERAL
    • Attend regular staff meetings when required
    • Ensure the nursery manager is kept abreast of any incidents, accidents and information that pertain to the smooth running of the nursery
    • Maintain the safety of children at all times
    • Understand and adhere to nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and behaviour management policies
    • Commit themselves to the implementation of the nursery inclusion and equality policy
    • Respect each member of the staff team, encouraging cooperation and trust
    • Preparing tea and coffee as requested
    • Attend occasional events and open days out of nursery hours
    • Undertake any tasks that the manager may set for the benefit of the children in her/his care

    Skills Required

    • Ability and motivation to study and gain childcare qualifications to Level 3.
    • Experience of caring for or working with children aged 0 – 5 in a voluntary or paid capacity
    • Positive approach to learning
    • Willingness to work in a team and take direction
    • Good listening skills
    • Numerical skills
    • Good time management skills
    • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to keep others informed

    Qualifications Required

    • Basic level of maths and English -desirable
    • Option for skills Bootcamp course to start accelerated apprenticeship at level 3 for the right candidate.

    Training

    Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. Shenfield Day Nursery will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

    You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes:

    • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours

    • Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator

    • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

    • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

    This will be delivered through Shenfield Day Nursery’s dedicated training provider, Realise.

    Realise is an established training provider that’s enjoying an exciting period of growth following a management buyout and rebrand in late 2020.

    Prospects

    If your apprenticeship is successful, it is hoped you will be offered a full time role in our nursery as a qualified practitioner at the end of your training


    Other Information

    You will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check as part of the employers safer recruitment process. 20 days paid holiday per year pus the usual Bank Holidays.
