Job Summary
Actively provide all services to clients as agreed with the manager on a client-by-client basis
in line with Alwyns service level standards, to include but not restricted to:
Delivery of assignments on time and on budget.
Deadline management.
Identifying opportunities to increase efficiency of processes.
Highlighting work shortages or processing problems promptly.
Assisting other members of the team to learn and develop their skills.
Where appropriate, in line with the client service programme, building strong relationships with clients to include in-depth knowledge of the clients and the industry in which they operate.
The range and variety of work in the department requires the apprentice to be proficient in
performing the following:
Bookkeeping
Data entry on a variety of software packages to include Xero, Sage, Quickbooks online.
Bank reconciliations.
Purchase/sales ledger invoice entry, matching, reconciliations and payments of approved invoices.
Journal entries.
Cash transactions posting and reconciliation.
Bank feed to post bank transactions automatically.
Receipt bank/hubdoc to post invoices automatically.
Review of client bookkeeping from time to time.
Assisting clients on Xero/QBO queries.
Excellent Excel skills.
VAT & CIS
Preparation of VAT returns from Xero, Sage, Quickbooks.
Flat rate, standard-rated partially exempt schemes.
Submit online, once the client is approved.
Set up of new schemes and registering with HMRC online.
Changes to the quarter-end date online.
Intrastat returns.
Experience of filing CIS returns and dealing with CIS queries.
Management accounts
Downloading information from Xero, Sage, Quickbooks into CCH.
Preparation of all control accounts and reconciliations.
Preparation of depreciation, accruals, prepayments, and any other relevant adjustments.
Posting journals into CCH and preparing annual accounts for partner review.

You will need 112 UCAS tariff or equivalent – minimum requirements
Plus a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) for school and college leaver roles.

Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3 - AAT
This Level 3 programme builds on the foundations for entry level talent to support growth within an Accountancy and Finance function.
Employees on this apprenticeship will ensure an Accountancy and Finance practice performs in the most effective way. It includes the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and provides the opportunity for them to support the business with essential skills and behaviours to drive results.
You will learn how to prepare financial statements for Sole Traders and Partnerships, the importance of management accounting information, and how to prepare VAT returns. You’ll develop the technical skills to start, or progress, your career in accountancy and this will allow you to continue with your studies onto Level 4.
To pass this level you will need to study the following four units:
Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS).
Management Accounting Techniques (MATS).
Tax Processes for Business (TPFB).
Business Awareness (BUAW).
